DECEMBER UPDATE
As we are in the midst of the holiday season it was decided that there would be no meeting of the NOBG in December. We are going to start our regular schedule back up in January 2011. I would like to say THANK YOU to all the members and friends of NOBG for a fun 2010.
We will be electing new officers at the January meeting so anyone who is interested is welcome to nominate members or themselves to serve. At this time we have three positions that we will be trying to fill. These positions are: President, Vice President and Secretary. We will be posting a description for all three positions in the next few days. Anyone interested in helping out the club in any way is welcome to be a part of our governing comittee.
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON !
See you all again in 2011 !

Take A Break in August...Have A Beer!
In the meantime; NOBG member Kelly Raymond has presented the group with a fantastic and well-suited opportunity to share our handiwork. In conjunction with the Port Angeles Association of Realtors (PAAR); the North Olympic Brewers Guild will be the featured provider of beer for the 19th Annual PAAR Oktoberfest event in Port Angeles. This will be a club-sponsored tasting and judging event, and obviously a great venue to feature our member’s beers. Details include:
19th Annual Oktoberfest
Friday October 15th (Starting Time TBD)
Lariat Hall
4018 S Tiller Road
Port Angeles, WA
- Estimated 130 attendants
- Brew tasting and voting to occur in the "happy hour" time prior to dinner.
- Those brewing for the event will be provided dinner - as guests
We’ll need to plan on approx. 35 gallons of beer (or more!), with a focus on beers that are suited to this type of event (although any beer is welcome). Please reply at your earliest convenience and let us know if you’re planning to participate, and what style of beer you’ll be bringing (and quantity). If you have a name for your beer as well, please provide that and we’ll be sure to have a sign prepared for tasters.
Thank you Kelly for this fantastic opportunity to showcase our club and it’s members, and a prost to the NOBG for all the good beer that’s sure to come!
Cheers,
Brian

So You Wanna Brew, Huh?
The NOBG held it's first demonstration at the Port Angeles Farmer's Market on May 15th. Mic, Keith, and Rich manned our tent. Even Keith's daughter Jessie got into the act and helped brew an IPA. Many folks stop to observe, and learn about the fine art of breweing. See pictures below...

Learn to Brew in May!
Located at the corner of Front and Lincoln streets in downtown Port Angeles, the Port Angeles Farmers Market is your best source for locally grown food and local crafts on the Olympic Peninsula. There is a great representation of local farms featuring organically and sustainably grown vegetables and fruits, and many local artisans also make the Market their home featuring beautiful handmade art and crafts.
The North Olympic Brewers Guild would like to invite all brewers and beer enthusiasts to this special home brew demonstration. More information can be found at www.northolympicbrewers.org, or www.farmersmarketportangeles.com.
NOBG members who wish to help with the demonstration can send an email to info@northolympicbrewers.org, or simply show up at the Farmer's Market at 9am on Saturday the 15th.

A Message From the New President
Many important and exciting things are happening in the home brewing community as of late. For our club business, we have defined some leadership positions, and held an election to fill those spots. I am your humble President. Keith Barnett is our Vice President, and Brian Kuh, Secretary. This spring, we will be presenting a demonstration brew at the Port Angeles Farmers Market. Bill down at Olympic Brewing Supplies www.olybrew.com in Bremerton has agreed to supply the grains for a display of all the different varieties. We need some volunteers to help. We'll discuss more on the 20th.
Another big event - - The Washington Homebrewers Association, www.wahomebrewers.org Board met on Tuesday, the 9th, and unanimously approved our membership as a full voting local association.
And speaking of WAHA, as a fundraiser, they are currently selling some logo'd merchanidise, we can order as an association and save some shipping. take a look:
http://www.wahomebrewers.org/news/268-limited-edition-waha-hoodies-and-new-t-shirts-for-sale
If you want to participate, please email me at micsager@gmail.com by the 16th.
There are some (relatively) local competitions coming. Again, see the WAHA website. It would be great if we could show the state that great beer is being brewed in the homes of Clallam County. I plan on entering my first competition this year, and I encourage all to do the same. It's a great way to learn from a skilled, objective judge as they evaluate the fruits of your labor.
It's gonna be a great year for brewing on the North Olympic Peninsula. Wholesale hop prices have dropped significantly. It's taking the retail outlets a little while to react, but they'll get there.
Hope to see one and all on the 20th. If you happen to have an IPA ready, please make sure and bring it. We plan a little judging of our own.

February Meeting Announcement
The new officers of the NOBG are:
- President: Mic Sager
- Vice President: Keith Barnett
- Secretary: Brian Kuh
The February meeting of the North Olympic Brewers Guild will be held on Saturday, February 20th at the home of Keith Barnett. The meeting will start at 6:00 pm and continue until business (and tasting) is completed. Keith lives at 231 Madrona Terrace in Sequim.
It is very important that we get as many members as possible to the meetings. We need input from everyone as to how the club should proceed as we would like to be a growing and active club. We are in the process of becoming a voting member of the Washington Homebrewers Association(WAHA).
The WAHA is responsible for the organization of many of the homebrew competitions that take place each year in the state of Washington. They were instrumental in the passing of senate bill 5060 which made the transport of homebrewed beer and wine legal in this state. We owe them a thanks and our continued support for their efforts to bring homebrewing into the mainstream.
