Just wanted to get a note out about our last meeting.
We had a long discussion about volunteer efforts for NHC next summer. I have contacted Mark Emily with the State association, and it appears they may well have enough volunteers. He'll let me know as we move closer. The national assocaition has not yet decided what type of financial break volunteers will get. Here's the website for the local organizing comittee
We also discussed three seperate competitions.
First of all, the Sasquatchian ale. With the 2012 National Homebrewers Conference in Bellevue next June, the Washington Homebrewers Association is looking for a special beer that Sasquatch (the honorary conference organizer) can be proud to serve to conference goers. We're looking to Washington homebrew club members to come up with they consider to be the embodiment of a "Sasquatch Ale" capture a special, Northwest, "Sasquatchian" flavor. Here's more data.
Secondly, the National Homebrew Competition. This is the big one every year. Here's more data.
And last, but certainly not least, is the BarHop Brewing contest. Tom Curry will brew the winner's beer, and this is open only to members of the NOBG. Deadline is february 15th. (or our February meeting) Bill Sproules, owner of Olympic Brewing Supplies in Bremerton has agreed to be our judge.
Also remember that we will elect new officers at our January meeting. Here's the details of those positions:
PRESIDENT:
1. Preside over all meetings of the NOBG.
2. Acts as liaison with the Washington Homebrewers Association (WAHA).
3. Reports all actions of executive officers to the general membership.
4. Calls special meetings as may be required to conduct the business of the NOBG.

Special congratulations go to Colin Smith for his first place in Category 8, English Pale Ale in the first round of the National Homebrew Competition. Click here to see those results. This was Colin’s first time entering, and we are very proud of his accomplishment. Competitions are quite fun, and the scoring sheets you get back from the judging can help you brew better beers.
Thank you Kelly Raymond for hosting the April meeting. We all had a great time tasting the hop tea and tasting all the great food you and I made. We’ll look forward to having all the recipes at the May meeting.
And speaking of the May meeting, we’ll be back in Sequim this month, meeting at my home in Carlsborg. Click here for directions. The meeting will be Sunday, May 22, at 6pm. Kelly and I will prepare some seafood appetizers, so come hungry if you like oysters on the half shell or such……. Look for the signs and banner.
Keep it hoppy, and hope to see everyone on the 22nd.

A note from our new President:
Thank you to Colin and Lynne Smith for your hospitality and GREAT food! There were several new faces at the January meeting and we would like to thank all newcomers for your participation.
Elections were held at the meeting and the new officers of the NOBG are as follows:
President: Keith Barnett
Vice President: Colin Smith
Secretary: Mic Sager
As the new president I would like to thank Mic for his past year of service to the club. I will be sending out an announcement on my ideas and hopes for the club in the upcoming year very soon. Any input from members about events, competitions and any ideas about making our club better would be greatly appreciated.
Also at the January meeting the Port Angeles Association of Realtors(PAAR) presented the club with a new banner. It was presented to us as a thank you for the club’s participation in the PAAR Octoberfest this past year. The banner was presented to the club by PAAR past President Dick Pilling. The club hopes to make this an annual event with the PAAR to help raise money for various community charities.
The February Meeting will be held at the home of one of our newest members, Kelly Raymond. (Details to follow soon)
Lastly I would like to thank all members of NOBG for their participation in the club events over the past year. 2011 will be a year of fun and events and we will look forward to seeing members new and old joining in for some good times and great homebrews.
Thank You,
Keith Barnett
